Joe Mac Jackson (Papaw), age 81 of Nauvoo, entered peacefully into his eternal home at his residence in the early morning hours of February 27th, 2025, surrounded by his family. Joe Mac Jackson was born in Nauvoo, Alabama on January 17th, 1944.
Joe Mac was a dedicated husband to the love of his life, Shelia, for over 56 years; a loving father to his daughter, Wendy, and son, Marty; and a proud Papaw to his seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He felt the best way to raise his children was through old fashioned values and spending as much time with his family as he could; he pursued this passion through founding and running a successful family farm for over 20 years, and, as necessary, he used his engineering skills to supplement income and provide for his family.
In his early years, he attended Nix School, graduated from Carbon Hill High School, and later pursued an education to become an engineer. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, where it was noticed he had talent as a singer and guitar player, and he was asked to lead a touring group of musicians all over Korea to different Army bases. He later passed down his love of music to his children and grandchildren and enjoyed “picking” and singing whenever he had the opportunity.
Most importantly, he was a believer, follower, and faithful servant of the Lord. He was a member of New Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church, where he served many years on the music team as a guitar player and on occasion led worship alongside his grandchildren. He was a neighbor and a friend to many. He longed for his Heavenly home and stepped into eternity proclaiming, “How wonderful! It’s so beautiful,” further securing our hope and faith that we will see him again soon.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 12:00 pm at New Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Ashbank Cemetery. Bro. Chris Pschirer will officiate the services. Pall Bearers will be Paul Henderson, Sam Horton, Miles Henderson, Ryan Jackson, Jonathan Jackson, and Elijah Abbott.
